BETHANY — The No. 6 ranked Oklahoma Baptist women’s basketball team led wire-to-wire for a 64-56 victory against Southwestern Christian Saturday afternoon at the Pickens-Springer Gymnasium in Bethany, Okla. OBU scored the first seven points to start the game and had built a 13-point lead early in the first half. SCU cut the deficit to three points on two separate occasions before halftime, but were unable to get any closer. The Lady Bison took a 31-26 lead into intermission after shooting 50 percent from the field. The second half was much like the first. OBU scored the first four points of the period to extend the lead to nine, and once again the Lady Eagles were able to turn a Lady Bison lead into a one possession game. After trailing by just one point on three separate occasions in the second half, SCU was unable to take the lead from OBU. A 13-4 run from the Lady Bison that lasted until the five-minute mark in the second half sealed the win for OBU. Senior Jalissa Council led the Lady Bison with 18 points, five rebounds, and two blocks on a 7-11 shooting performance. Janell Beacham registered her fourth double-double of the season, scoring 10 points while pulling down 11 rebounds. She also added a team-high three steals. Guards Charity Fowler and Marida Lewis each had four assists, while center Zbeyda Aremi recorded four blocks in the winning effort. Vanessa Bledsoe led SCU with 20 points and four rebounds.
