A Shawnee man was involved in an accident that has claimed the life of a driver from Stillwater.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol investigated the accident, which occurred Wednesday in Payne County.

Sean M. Kelley, 53, of Stillwater, was injured in the crash and died Thursday at a Tulsa hospital, the patrol reported.

The accident occurred as Kelly drove a 2005 Chevrolet eastbound on SH 33, about two miles west of Cushing.

The trooper’s report shows a 1999 Mack dump truck, driven by David Bruce Thomas, 51, Shawnee, also was eastbound.

While the OHP report shows cause of the collision remains under investigation, the patrol’s narrative shows that Thomas began to pass the car and Kelly attempted a left-hand turn, resulting in the dump truck striking the driver’s side door of Kelly’s vehicle.

Kelly went by Air Evac helicopter to a Tulsa Hospital, with the OHP reporting he died from his injuries on Thursday.

Thomas was not injured in the crash, the OHP said.

Seat belts were equipped and in use in both vehicles.

The trooper’s report shows the accident remains under investigation.
