  • BETHEL ACRES — Behind an outstanding day from freshman Brayden Diebold, Bethel inflicted a 7-2 defeat on Meeker Monday.
Diebold clubbed a 2-run home run in the fourth inning, then led off the sixth with another HR. Both homers were to left field.
Diebold also saved a run in the third with a full-extension catch of a drive into right center.
“Brayden had an outstanding game for a freshman,” Bethel coach Todd Brown said. “We are looking for big things from him in the future.”
Senior right-hander Brooks Richards of Bethel, who went the distance, permitted eight hits, fanned eight and didn’t issue a walk. With Meeker already up 2-0 and having the bases loaded in the fourth, Richards avoided further damage with a strikeout, an infield popup and a flyout to center.
One of the Meeker runs was unearned.
Richards also had an RBI double to straight-away center in the sixth.
Garrett Fitzgerald of Bethel posted a run-scoring double off the top of the left field wall in the fifth.
Also for Bethel, Clint Simmons notched two singles and three stolen bases. Teammate Caleb Smith had two singles, knocking in a run in the fourth.
For Meeker, Kolby Stith posted two hits, including a double, and Jacob Hayes chipped in with a double and a single.
Bethel, 5-3, will travel to Prague Tuesday. The Wildcats will play Friday at Norman.
