Go back to the Wild West with Shawnee Public Library's Little Read Story Times
The Shawnee Public Library beings the world of cowboys into its Little Read Story Times, at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, in the Story Time Room of the library, 101 N. Philadelphia Ave.
The program will feature stories, music, rhymes and other activities with a cowboy theme. The program is a kid-friendly Little Read event, an offshoot of the library system's annual PLS Big Read, which this year has older readers focusing on the Charles Portis novel "True Grit."
The library hosts story times at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. most Tuesdays, with different weekly themes.
Registration is not required to attend any of the story times.

Literacy tutor training scheduled at the Shawnee Public Library
The Pottawatomie County Literacy Department, part of the Pioneer Library System, announces an Adult Literacy Tutor Training, starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 5, in Community Rooms A and B of the Shawnee Public Library, 101 N. Philadelphia Ave.
The training will give prospective volunteer tutors a basic understanding of expectations for the program, in which adult literacy learners who have come to the library for help with their reading are paired with volunteer tutors.
The workshop will focus on both English as a Second Language and adult literacy skills. No prior teaching experience or foreign language experience is required to be a tutor.
Tutors must be age 18 or older and registration is required in advance to take part in the training, which will run all day, until 5 p.m.

Sharpen your computer skills with series of classes at the Tecumseh library
Get ahead in the world of computers with help of the Tecumseh Public Library and a month-long series of free computer classes.
The library will host a different class on each Tuesday in April, starting at 5 p.m. Classes will allow for hands-on instruction at a library computer.
The schedule features:
April 1 – Computer Basics, including how to use a mouse and other navigation skills
April 8 – Microsoft Word Basics, an introduction to word processing with the program Microsoft Word
April 15 – Search the Internet, with basics and tips for getting around on the World Wide Web.
April 22 – Computer Internet and Library Catalog, more information on getting online plus basics on using the library's online catalog
April 29 – Customer's Choice, a chance to ask any other specific questions, either about the computer or any personal electronic device
All classes are offered free of charge, but space is limited to 8 students per class.
Registration is required in advance separately for each class and may be completed in person at the library or by calling 598-5955.
Join the fun at Toddler Story Time in Tecumseh
The Tecumseh Public Library continues its Toddler Story Time at 11 a.m. each Thursday in April at the library, 114 N. Broadway.
Library Assistants Sue Walker and Cyndi Seeley will offer a variety of songs, stories and fingerplays for young children and their caregivers.
Registration is not required to take part in the story times.
