Shawnee showing "True Grit" in book discussion.

The Shawnee Public Library is showing some "True Grit" with this year's PLS Big Read at the library and throughout the Pioneer Library System.

As part of this year's PLS Big Read, the library will host a discussion of the Charles Portis novel as part of the "Let's Talk About it Oklahoma" series of the Oklahoma Humanities Council. The discussion takes place at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 10, at the library, 101 N. Philadelphia Ave.

Scholar Bill Hagen will lead the discussion of the novel, written in 1968 and later turned into two successful film versions.

Participants in the discussion will receive their own copy of the book to keep, courtesy of the Oklahoma Humanities Council. Copies of the book are available from library staff in advance.

The PLS Big Read: True Grit is presented with major funding by the Pioneer Library System, Pioneer Library System Foundation, Oklahoma Humanities Council, Norman Arts Council, The Anne & Henry Zarrow Foundation, and the Friends of the Norman Library. Additional support is provided by Dewayne Sexton's Cowboy Carriage, Queen of Hart's Costumes LLC, University of Oklahoma Video and Media Services, Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art, Moore Warren Theatre, Shawnee Cinema Center 8, Cleveland County OSU Extension, Cleveland County 4-H, Cleveland County Fairgrounds, Pawnee Bill Ranch Association, and Mercury Press, Inc.
