    No other topic seems more important than providing information to help everyone stay healthy as a way of life. Hopefully each of you has been spending a little time every day making health conscious choices in regard to your nutrition, vitamins, fluids and exercise. If so, keep up the good work, because I am almost certain that sooner rather than later, you will be so proud of yourself and the results.
    Today, my first challenge is for everyone to please work hard at controlling your caloric intake for days at a time, and make the decision now to commit to a regular fitness and nutrition regimen. Adopting this concept is a great way to help you stay healthy and trim.
    A good side note to remember here is that to lose one pound it takes burning 3,500 calories. That is an awful lot of work if you try to do it at one time. It has been estimated that a person would have to run at a moderate pace for four hours, walk for 30 miles, or swim for five hours to burn off 3,000 calories. I certainly don't recommend those long bouts of exercise during one session, because it is entirely too hard on the human body to maintain any type of consistency. So, performing your 20 to 30 minutes of moderate exercise on most days of the week, along with two to three days of strength training, is a much more convenient, safe, and effective option to stay in control. Not to mention, exercise jump starts your metabolism, which continues to help you burn maximum amounts of calories.
    Once you have committed to using exercise to stay trim, active, and healthy, it is now time to look at your schedules and plan your exercise time weekly just like any other important event that will occur during the next couple of months. For example, when it's time to go to work, go to work. When it's time to take the kids to lessons, take the kids to lessons. When it's time to exercise, it's time to exercise. Our ultimate goal, of course, is for this to develop into a regular habit that conveniently fits into our lifestyles forever. Besides burning those extra calories, exercise is so good for your health, decreases your stress, and improves your quality of life.
    Please believe me when I say it is also fine to enjoy your favorite treats every now and then, as long as you do it in moderation. Especially when you are following a regular fitness, vitamin, and nutrition program.
    Another great way to keep yourself on track is to consume lower fat and sugar meals as often as you can. Please don't skip meals, because we need to stay nourished. Bypassing regular meals will only deprive you of valuable nutrients and slow down your metabolism. Just stick with limiting the calories and consuming a healthy blend of proteins, moderate carbs, low fat choices, lots of water and results will soon be coming your way.
    Page 2 of 2 - Another great tip is to space out your party beverages. It is a good idea to have a glass of sparkling water, or plain water after each glass of wine or alcoholic beverage. Try it. You will have a great time socializing at the event as well as feel great when you wake up the next morning. Moderation and consistency are definitely the keys when it comes to maintaining and improving your health as a normal way of life. In fact, it is a great idea to start your day off with several large glasses of water in the morning, and drink abundantly throughout the remainder of the day. Not only will you stay hydrated, but this will be a great start at keeping your body from feeling hungry.
    I would also like to challenge you to start deciding what you are going to eat each day for breakfast the night before. Also review in advance what you think your day is going to be like the following day. Will you be going out for lunch or dinner? Are you going to have a crazy day at work? If so, what are you going to do to prevent the vending machine from being your best option at lunch? Providing yourself solutions to potential problems will drastically improve your health and fitness success.
    Of course, there will always be a few exceptions that come up last minute that change your plans, but that’s OK, because 85 percent good eating combined with 15 percent of not-so-good eating can still help you produce wonderful results. Give this a try if you are looking for a good way to control your content and quantity of calories for the day.
    Besides your regular individual fitness program, please also plan as many physical activities as you can for yourself and loved ones. Maybe a family walk outdoors, or at the mall after breakfast, lunch, and or dinner? Possibly basketball, skating, bowling, ping pong, or badminton with the kids? Another fun activity is dancing. Did you know you can burn 200 calories dancing to 10 songs? The idea here is just be creative and plan things that will work great for your family. Can't you just see all those smiling faces and memories being created at whatever activities you choose? And just think, you get to count it all as exercise that improves your health. It just doesn't get better than that, folks.
    The choice is totally yours. You can do this! Just believe it, and you can achieve it!
