Lady Savages run-rule Muskogee in the Muskogee/Tahlequah Slug Out for a fifth place finish.
MUSKOGEE — Aspen Grimes belted two home runs that put seven runs on the scoreboard as Tecumseh run ruled Muskogee, 12-4, in Saturday’s fifth-place game of the Muskogee/Tahlequah Slug-Out.
Tecumseh is ranked No. 9 in Class 6A while the Lady Roughers are No. 5.
Grimes, a junior infielder, connected on a double in the first inning before hitting a grand slam in the Lady Savages’ six-run second inning.
Grimes brought out her home run bat again in the sixth inning and converted on a three-run shot.
Kelsie Carsten hit a bases-loaded single in the sixth inning that activated the run rule and ended the game.
Jordan Detherage went 3-for-4 with three singles while Jessica Cummings, Sierra Humphrey and Logan Hays contributed two hits each.
To make it to the fifth-place game in the 12-team event, Tecumseh first had to win a game in Tahlequah Saturday. There, the Lady Savages toppled the top-ranked team in Class A, Red Oak. The final was 6-2.
Hilary Babbit and Carsten shared hitting honors as both went 3-for-3. Babbit’s effort included a double. Detherage drove in two runs and scored two others.
Tecumseh will be closer to home Monday with a short trip to Seminole for two games. The Lady Savages are scheduled to play Stroud at 5:15, followed by a 6:30 game against the Lady Chieftains.
