The Shawnee Wolves went 4-0 in the Shawnee Showdown and ran their record to 15-1 on the season with a win over Western Heights Saturday, while Dale split its final two games of the tournament.
The Shawnee Wolves took care of Western Heights 9-0 to finish the Shawnee Showdown with a 4-0 record on Saturday, while the Dale Pirates lost to Ponca City 8-7 before rallying to down Del City 8-2 in the tournament’s final contest.
Teddy Robertson threw a no-hitter for the Wolves in their win over the Jets, striking out nine and walking two in five innings of work.
Robertson also had a big day at the plate, gong 2-for-3.
The Wolves got started in the top of the first inning with Eli Davis leading off the game with a double. Austin Cooper followed with a single and followed Davis home after an outfield error to make it 2-0.
Josh Rolette followed by reaching on an error and eventually scored on Colin Robertson’s single to make it 3-0.
Rolette doubled to lead off the third and scored on a single by Landon Harper to make it 4-0. The Wolves (15-1) would put the game away with a five-run fifth.
Rolette reached on another error to lead off the inning, followed by Colin Robertson and Harper being hit by pitches to load the bases. Teddy Robertson singled in one run before Landon Sparks cleared the bases with a triple to make it 8-0. A double by Logan Franklin drove in Sparks with the game’s final run.
Robertson needed just 57 pitches, 40 of which were strikes, to pick up his first win of the year.
The Wolves will play a home doubleheader against Capitol Hill on Tuesday. The district contests will begin at 4:30 p.m.
Dale falls to Ponca City, defeats Del City
Four errors by the Pirates led to a seven-run second inning as Ponca City handed Dale its second loss of the year with an 8-7 decision at the Shawnee Showdown Saturday.
The Wildcats (10-9) sent 12 batters to the plate an pounded out six hits in the second inning, giving them a 7-0 lead.
Dale came back with four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning, getting an RBI double from Skyler Martin while taking advantage of two errors, a walk and a hit batter.
After a solo home run by Ponca’s Wesley O’Neal in the fourth inning made it 8-4, Dale would get to within one with a three-run fifth. Xavier Lanham had a two-run double and later scored on a wild pitch, but the Pirates (14-2) left the bases loaded and stranded three more runners over the final two innings.
Dale would overcome a sluggish start to defeat Del City 8-2 in their final game. The Pirates took an early lead on Colt Manship’s RBI single in the second inning, but Del City rallied with two in the fourth to take a 2-1 lead.
Dale took advantage of a pair of errors to get two runs in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead. The Pirates then got their bats going, getting four extra-base hits over the final two innings, scoring four more runs to put the game away.
Gage Ross had an RBI double in the fifth, while Tanner Nelson had a triple in the sixth, and Hunter Pinkston and Chase Byndas added doubles to complete the scoring.
Skyler Martin got the win on the mound for Dale, while Logan Carter struck out all six batters he faced in two innings of relief.
Dale will take on Class B No. 1 Asher at home on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
