Pool bids and sales tax enforcement are two hot topic items on this Monday night’s City Commission agenda.
An item to consider bids made the agenda for the second meeting in a row but Director of Operations James Bryce wrote in a memo, “Staff is requesting to defer the award of the New Municipal Pool Project.”
Bryce wrote staff is recommending the agenda item be deferred until the May 5 commission meeting.
“City Staff and Water’s Edge Aquatic Design has requested information from the low bidder in order to satisfy the bid requirements,” Bryce wrote. “We have not received that information yet and are requesting to defer award until the next commission meeting.”
The general contractor that submitted the preferred bid on the pool is subcontracting the building of the actual pool part of the project and Bryce wrote in the memo staff needs to insure the subcontractor has enough experience relating to the requirements in the bid.
The Municipal Pool Committee is still accepting tax-deductible donations for the pool. Those can be mailed to: Shawnee Community Foundation, c/o Municipal Pool, 1421 E. 45th Street, Shawnee, OK 74804. For questions, please call 481-0562.
Bryce will also give an administrative report at the commission meeting on the Boy Scout Park Splash Pad.
Commissioners will go into executive session again Monday night to discuss matters relating to sales tax enforcement action.
At the City Commission meeting held April 7, commissioners voted to utilize mediation for the sales tax issue but Citizen Potawatomi Nation Tribal Chairman John Barrett responded with opposition, saying meditation was premature.
The City Commission meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday at City Hall.
