  • Shawnee golfers win regional title

  • Led by Garrett McDaniel and Morgen Pettigrew, the Wolves dominated the field at the 5A regional on Monday at Shawnee Country Club.

  • Dominating at their home course on Monday, the Shawnee Wolves won the 5A golf regional at Shawnee Country Club by 33 strokes over Duncan, qualifying for next week’s state championship.
    Garrett McDaniel and Morgen Pettigrew led the Wolves with 36-hole totals of 147 and 148, finishing first and second in the individual standings.
    Braden Ricks and Daniel Langley finished with scores of 154 and 155, also landing in the top-10. Cole Humphrey rounded out the scoring for the Wolves with a total of 165.
    The Wolves finished with a team score of 604. Duncan was second in the team standings with a total of 637. OKC McGuinness (656), Edmond Deer Creek (672), Altus (683) and Lawton MacArthur (683) rounded out the top six and qualified as teams for state.
    Rounding out the top five individually were Deer Creek’s Bay Aston (3rd, 152), Lawton MacArthur’s Trent Meisel (4th, 153) and McGuinness’s David Trimble, who tied with Ricks for fifth.
    McDaniel shot a 76 on his first 18 holes and trailed Pettigrew by three strokes, but closed with a round of 71 to take the individual title.
    The 5A state golf championships will be held at Ft. Sill Golf Club in Lawton on May 12 and 13. The Wolves finished second to Bishop Kelley in last year’s state tournament.
