  • Local track athletes earn medals at state

  • In a day filled mostly with preliminaries, several area athletes earned medals at state track championships at Carl Albert and Moore High Schools.

  • MOORE – Several area athletes earned medals on the first day of the 3A-4A state track meet at Moore High School on Friday.
    Friday’s program was filled mostly with preliminaries, with most of the medal events being contested on Saturday.
    In 3A Prague’s Abbey Brunson finished sixth in the 3200 meters, then teamed with Michaela Farrill, Miranda Opela and Savannah Hilbun to earn a sixth place medal in the 4x800 relay.
    In 4A the Bethel Lady Wildcats finished third in the 4x200 relay with the team of Kelcey Eropkin, Sierra Fullbright, Ruth King and Paige Delsien teaming up to win the bronze.
    Tecumseh’s team of Tesa Potter, Taylor Williams, Bianca Mason and Taci Richardson finished fourth in the 4x800 relay.
    Seminole’s Leah Knighton won the area’s only individual gold medal on Friday, winning the 4A girls shot put title with a throw of 41-9 to take the title.
    On the boys’ side Seminole’s team of Kasey Quillin, Doc Harvey, Kolten Kiker and Papi White finished second to Mannford in the 4x200 relay, while Stavon Haskins and Charles Thomas finished second and third in the high jump for the Seminoles.
    In the A-2A meet at Carl Albert High School, Stroud’s Tiller Bucktrot finished fourth in the shot put, while Skylor Johnson finished fifth in the pole vault.
    Competition at both locations will resume at 10 a.m. on Saturday with field events, while running events will resume at 1 p.m.
