  • A 6-year-old Shawnee girl was the victim of a drowning in Lake Longmire near Pauls Valley on Sunday.
Pauls Valley Police Chief Mitch McGill identified the child as Ava Bells of Shawnee.
The call came into the Pauls Valley Police Department around 5:49 p.m. Sunday.
McGill said he believes that while the adults in the group were attempting to set up camp Bells and some other children went on into the lake to begin swimming.
“They told us she could not swim,” McGill said. “We believe she started floating on her back and drifted to an area where she could not stand up in the water.”
Several agencies became involved in the search and the child’s body was found about 9 p.m.
No other information was available Monday night and The News-Star hasn’t yet received any obituary information.
