  • Three very different gardens will be open for tours on Saturday, June 7 from 9 a.m. until noon during the annual Garden Tour sponsored by the Greater Shawnee Area Chamber of Commerce Beautification and Enhancement Committee. The weather forecast is for rain, but the gardens will be open. Be thankful for the moisture and wear a raincoat or bring an umbrella. Tickets are $5 which includes all three gardens and may be purchased at the Chamber office or at one of the gardens on the day of the event.

The home of Carole and Frank Turner is at 51 Serenada Lane in Granada Estates. If entering Granada Estates from Bryan Street, Serenada Lane is the first street to the right. Their home is at the end of the block before the street curves to the east.

Jim and Wilburta Wilkerson live at 2 Windsor Court in Northridge. Windsor Court is the first street to the east when entering on Crown Point from MacArthur.

Ruth Horn, president of the Shawnee Council of Garden Clubs, owns the third home in this year’s garden tour. Her home at 2203 N. Minnesota in Lakeview Estates is reached by turning north off Federal Street onto North Minnesota and traveling around the curve to her garden that backs up to the lake.

The proceeds from the Garden Tour are used to fund landscaping in public areas of Shawnee. So far this spring the committee has provided plants for the Centennial Clock bed, for the Main and Bell landscaping and for sidewalk plantings on Main between Bell and Union Streets.
