  • Authorities are hoping surveillance photos captured during a weekend robbery will help identify a suspect now being sought for two E-Z Mart robberies that occurred in a short time frame early Monday morning.
Shawnee police and Pottawatomie County sheriff’s deputies are both probing these cases since the E-Z Mart on Harrison and Westech is in the city limits, while the one robbed at U.S. 177 and 45th Street is located in the county’s jurisdiction.
Another robbery that also occurred late Sunday night at the Shawnee Rib Crib may not be related, police said Tuesday.
Based on call times, it appears the Rib Crib incident occurred just before 11:19 p.m. Sunday night, followed by the U.S. 177 E-Z Mart hold-up about 12:33 a.m. Monday, and concluding with the robbery at the Harrison and Westech location about 1:45 a.m. Monday.
A surveillance camera at the U.S. 177 store captured a male subject wearing an Abercrombie and Fitch hoodie, with his face covered by a white bandana. A suspect matching that same description was involved in the second E-Z Mart holdup on Westech Road.
At that scene, officers spoke with the clerk at the store on Westech Road. The clerk, who was reported to be a trainee, had only been on the job for three hours when that robbery occurred, the police report shows. The clerk told officers he was in the back of the store and returned to the front to find a masked white male wearing a blue hoodie, blue jeans and a white bandana. The suspect had a knife and threatened he had a gun, the officer noted, but the clerk never saw a gun. The suspect in that hold up got away with a small amount of cash and four pack of cigarettes, police reports show.
At the earlier E-Z Mart hold up, the suspect believed to be the same man dropped most of the cash in that incident.
Pottawatomie County Undersheriff Travis Palmer said, “We found three-fourths of the money in the parking lot where he dropped it.”
Palmer said they feel confident that the same person was involved in both E-Z Mart robberies, although the Rib Crib incident is likely unrelated.
During the Rib Crib hold-up, police said the “suspect smashed through a glass door and forced an employee to open the safe,” with reports indicated a gun was involved in that incident.
A police report on that case is still awaited from police.
Anyone with information about these cases can call Shawnee police, 273-2121 or Crimestoppers, 273-0989, or Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s detectives at 275-2526.
In addition to these three latest incidents, Shawnee police continue to investigate leads in five other armed robberies that occurred in recent months.
Page 2 of 2 - Two of those occurred at the Pflash Stop convenience store on Farrall Street, while another occurred at the Kwick Stop on Independence and Center Street. Another late-night robbery also occurred at Carl’s Jr., and the latest robbery occurred at the Highland Food Mart at Highland and Bryan Streets.
Anyone with information on any of these cases should call police.
    Watch for updates.
