Suspects sought in incidents at Rib Crib, two E-Z Mart stores.

Shawnee police and Pottawatomie County sheriff’s deputies are searching for suspects after three armed robberies, including one where the suspect dropped most of the money in the parking lot as he fled on foot.

Robberies were reported at the Rib Crib at 45th and Kickapoo Street, as well as the E-Z Mart at Harrison and Westech, which are both in the Shawnee city limits, while the other was reported at the E-Z Mart at U.S. 177 and 45th, which is in the county sheriff’s jurisdiction.

Based on the times each one was reported, it appears the Rib Crib incident occurred just before 11:19 p.m. Sunday night, followed by the U.S. 177 E-Z Mart hold-up about 12:33 a.m. Monday, and concluding with the robbery at Harrison and Westech location about 1:45 a.m. Monday.

During the Rib Crib hold-up, police said the “suspect smashed through a glass door and forced an employee to open the safe,” while the clerk at the Harrison Street E-Z Mart also was forced to open the cash register at knifepoint.

Authorities believe it’s likely the same suspect or suspects involved in these incidents.

Pottawatomie County Undersheriff Travis Palmer said deputies are investigating the crime at the U.S. 177 location, where the suspect, who threatened the clerk with a knife, dropped most of the stolen loot during his getaway.

“We found three-fourths of the money in the parking lot where he dropped it,” Palmer said.

When Shawnee officers responded to the robbery at the E-Z mart on Harrison Street, call notes indicated it was the same suspect from other E-Z Mart robbery, who was described as being a Hispanic male, who was 5 feet, 4 inches tall, with a heavy build, wearing a white bandana and a blue hoodie.

Palmer, who said the suspect in their incident had an Abercrombie and Fitch hoodie, said the man could have been more tanned rather than Hispanic. But, Palmer said, they feel confident that the same person or persons was involved in these robberies.

Shawnee police detectives are probing their cases as well, although full reports are awaited.
