The Fourth of July was a big day for Mark Craig.

Not only does he celebrate Independence Day with the rest of the country, but also his birthday and this year, the beginning of International Finals Youth Rodeo check in.

Anyone at the Heart of Oklahoma Exposition Center on Friday would recognize Craig immediately, driving around in his red, white and blue decorated golf cart. His wife, Lori Craig, decorated it as a birthday surprise.

“We usually have a big family get together,” Lori said.

Because the beginning of the IFYR check-in fell on his birthday, they weren’t able to plan a big celebration this year. Lori said her goal was to make sure he had an awesome day.

“That’s all I care about,” she said.

Mark said he was pleasantly surprised by the golf cart. He was not disappointed to be volunteering on his birthday.

“It’s great,” he said. “I like the rodeo. I like the cowboy life myself.”

Craig has been volunteering at the IFYR for about 12 or 13 years. His favorite part is getting to meet new people.

“It’s very nice to talk to people from different states and different ways of life,” he said. “I always have a great time.”
