  • Discussion on an ordinance amending a city charter article providing for referral of Ordinances of Detachment of Territory under specific circumstances to a vote of the people and reimbursement for public improvements is expected at the Monday night Shawnee City Commission meeting.
The commission will consider and possibly take action on the item. In connection with that issue, commissioners may take action on a resolution calling for a special November election for a vote on whether the amending ordinance should be approved.
Another resolution that may garner action encourages and requests the Pottawatomie County Commissioners to place before the voters a ballot title permitting the Sunday sale of alcoholic beverages at restaurants in the county.
An item calling for possible action regarding reduction of the statutory minimum liability limits on some city-owned property returns to the floor after being tabled at the June 16 meeting. The item previously produced lively discussion.
An additional returning item is the opening of bids for the rehab concrete streets project. Staff is expected to recommend the contract be awarded to S&J Construction Specialists in the amount of $466,725.
The agenda also calls for the consideration of executive sessions for several items. The first entails discussion of potential claims, litigation or other options regarding Nash Construction v. City of Shawnee. Other executive session items involve discussion regarding performance evaluations and employment contracts of the city manager, city attorney and municipal judge.
The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. in the Commission Chambers at City Hall.
