Registration can be done on the Association's website or at the Shawnee Mall on Saturday.
The Shawnee Soccer Association is beginning its twentieth year in Shawnee with registration for its fall season. Founded in 1995, the SSA is focused on developing good character, sportsmanship, soccer skills, leadership, self-esteem and teamwork. The SSA is a member of the Oklahoma Soccer Association, US Youth Soccer, the US Soccer Federation, and FIFA.
The SSA continues to serve the Shawnee area with soccer teams, coaching opportunities, and referee clinics. Children ages 4 to 18 can participate on recreational teams, most of which are coached by licensed coaches.
Teams for 4 and 5 year olds will especially focus on skill development and positive perspectives on sports and winning. A new format for training at this level will also help parents and coaches who are new to the game.
The cost of registration is $75 per player per season, with uniform packages that run from $55 to $75. Players will also have to provide cleats, shin guards and a soccer ball.
Registration is available through the Association’s website at www.shawneesoccerok.org. There will also be in-person registration available at the Shawnee Mall on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A copy of the player’s birth certificate is required.
The SSA’s 23 recreational teams won eight first and second place trophies in the spring season alone. The SSA’s U19 women’s competitive team, the SSA United, won the state competitive bracket. This team had six seniors, all of whom were offered scholarships at state universities.
