  • The Shawnee Marketplace, expected to open Spring 2015, has added a grocery store to its roster of retailers.
Aldi is part of the marketplace’s Phase 1. Karleen Krywucki, Director of Major Tenant Leasing for Retail Properties at Price Edwards, said the grocer did a ground lease.
“They’ll be building their own building,” she said.
The company, which leased 60,984 square feet of ground, will construct a 16,398-square-foot store.
Tim Burg, executive director of the Shawnee Economic Development Foundation, said it appears Aldi will be located behind the area near Delta Cafe and CVS.
“My guess is it will be down on the south end, along Kickapoo,” he said. “That’s where the pad site looks like it’s being built.”
    Krywucki confirmed the location.
Joining Aldi in Phase 1 is Hobby Lobby, PetsMart, Famous Footwear, Ulta and TJ Maxx. Phase 2 stores have not been announced.
