Dale and Tecumseh both got shutout wins on the road to open their 2014 softball seasons on Tuesday.

CACHE – The Dale Lady Pirates took advantage of seven walks and three errors to get a big opening-day win on the road at Cache, defeating the 2013 4A state semifinalists 6-0 on Tuesday.

Taylor Powell (1-0) dominated in the circle for Dale, allowing just two hits and no walks in the complete game win.

“I’m proud of her,” Dale head coach Andy Powell said. “She spotted it up and pitched very well.”

Dale got hits from Shelby Savage, Regan Holt and Lacey Hood, while Lauren Hood got two RBIs on a pair of sacrifices. Savage also knocked in a run.

The Lady Pirates took the lead early with two runs in the top of the first and two more in the second, adding single runs in the fifth and sixth innings for the final margin.

“It’s a good win for us over a quality team,” Powell said. “We’re excited to be 1-0. I couldn’t be more proud of how we played.”

Dale will play Piedmont and Cache in the Chisholm Trail Classic on Saturday.

Tecumseh shuts out Harrah

HARRAH – Caitlin Bingham struck out six and the Lady Savages pounded out 13 hits in an 8-0 run-rule win on the road Tuesday.

Tecumseh broke things open with three in the third inning and three more in the fourth, ending the game by run rule with a pair of scores in the fifth.

Bingham went the distance, allowing just one hit and one walk.

Carly Scallorn led Tecumseh with three hits, scoring three times and stealing three bases.

Aspen Grimes was 3-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs. Suni Meely and Franki Hull added a pair of hits for the Lady Savages.

Tecumseh will play at Shawnee on Thursday at 5 p.m.
