Shawnee blew out McAlester in their season opener, while Dale and Bethel each won two games on the first day of the Tuttle Tournament.
Lady Wolves win season opener
The Shawnee Lady Wolves scored early and often in blowing out McAlester in their season opener 11-0 at home on Thursday.
The Lady Wolves (1-0 overall, 1-0 in District 5A-4) scored three runs in the first and added another in the second for the early lead, doubling it to 8-0 with four more in the fourth.
Shawnee pounded out 13 hits on the night, led by Alexis Freeman, who went 2-3 and drove in 3 runs.
Kelsey and Kayla Simmons each had two hits with Kelsey driving in a pair of runs. Logan Bonner also had 2 RBIs.
Kylee Thompson struck out four and allowed just one hit in getting the win.
“We played well,” head coach David Rolette said. “We didn’t allow any walks and limited our errors. That’s what we have to do to win.”
Shawnee hosts Tecumseh on Friday at 5 p.m.
Dale wins two at Tuttle Tournament
The Dale Lady Pirates moved to 3-0 on the season with a pair of easy wins at the Tuttle Tournament at Firelake on Thursday.
In their first game Dale downed Marietta 14-4 in four innings then needed four innings to dispatch Perry 14-0.
The Lady Pirates got 13 hits in the first game. Regan Holt went 3-3 with a double and a triple, while Lauren Hood had three hits.
Dani Manning and Shelby Savage had two hits apiece.
Hood got the win on the mound, allowing six hits while striking out five.
In game two Savage had three more hits, including a double and a triple, driving in four runs. Hood had three hits with two doubles and also drove in four.
Holt added a double and a triple.
Taylor Powell moved her record to 2-0 on the season, allowing one hit and striking out four while also getting a pair of hits at the plate.
Bethel squeaks by MSM
The Bethel Lady Wildcats won two on the first day of the Tuttle Tournament at the Firelake Ballfields on Thursday, defeating Mount Saint Mary’s 2-0 in their first game and blowing out Little Axe 12-0 in the second.
The Lady Wildcats (3-0) scored both of their runs in the first inning of the win over the Rockets. Montana Price and Bry Flanagan had an RBI apiece.
Kim Herron got the win, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out six over five innings.
Herron had an easier time getting the win over Little Axe, striking out seven and allowing three hits in three innings.
Makayla Whitten went 2-2 and drove in three runs, including a two-run home run in the third inning. Flanagan had a pair of hits and drove in two more runs.
Bethel scored two or more runs in each of the first four innings.
The Lady Wildcats play Lone Grove at 4 p.m. and Lexington at 8:30 p.m. on Friday.
