WELEETKA – The Macomb Lady Hornets got their 2014 softball season off to a rough start, losing three out of four at the Weleetka Festival on Friday and Saturday.
Macomb’s lone win came against Graham (Weleetka), a 13-0 drubbing in which the Lady Hornets pounded out 11 hits.
Kailin Gregg got the win, allowing no hits over five innings while striking out seven. Gregg also had two hits and an RBI.
Maddi Whitman had a three-run double while Kaylee Williams had a grand slam in the Lady Hornets’ eight-run second inning while Tori Annanders knocked in a pair of runs.
On Friday the Lady Hornets dropped a 6-3 decision to Varnum in which they committed six errors. Gregg and Cree Pope had RBIs for Macomb.
The Lady Hornets finished the festival on Saturday with losses to Meeker and Eufaula. In the 5-4 loss to Meeker, the Lady Hornets held the lead before the Lady Bulldogs rallied with three in the bottom of the sixth.
Shania Pace had two hits and drove in two runs for Macomb, who dropped a 4-2 decision to Eufaula in their final contest.
The Lady Hornets will play Paden on Monday.
