  • City Engineer John Krywicki plans to give a presentation regarding flooding on Buck Drive at the Monday night Shawnee City Commission meeting.
At the Aug. 4 meeting, three residents addressed city commission about flooding problems, leading the city to further explore the issue.
“Due to citizens’ concerns, demonstrated at the last meeting, the city engineering department is looking into solutions to mitigate the flood issues in that area,” Krywicki recently said, adding the presentation will consist of preliminary findings.
Another presentation, by Kinlee Farris, Executive Director of the Shawnee Convention and Visitors Bureau, will follow. Farris is expected to provide an update on Visit Shawnee, Inc.
Commissioners will discuss, consider and possibly take action on an item concerning use of city facilities as public tornado shelters.
In a memo to the mayor and city commissioners, through City Manager Brian McDougal, Emergency Management Director Donald Lynch recommends terminating the use of Shawnee City Hall and Fire Station #3 as public tornado shelters.
The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. in the Commission Chambers at City Hall.
