  • DALE – After nearly two full games, the Dale Pirates finally broke through against the Roff Tigers, scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Unfortunately for the Pirates, it was too little, too late, as the Tigers built a 7-0 lead on the way to defeating Dale for the second time this season, this time by a score of 7-2 on Monday.
The Tigers (8-1) defeated Dale 2-0 on Aug. 15 in the semifinals of the Dale Tournament.
On Monday the Tigers took advantage of three walks issued in the second inning by Dale starter Joe Buckendorff, scoring the first run of the game on a fielder’s choice by Hunter Larsh to take the early lead.
They added two more in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings to put the game away.
The Pirates (6-3) finally got on the board in their last at-bat when Gunnar Hathcock was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Hunter Sanford drove in Dalton Long with the second run on a fielder’s choice to shortstop.
Dale had other chances to score, getting two runners on in the fourth and fifth innings. Josh Rutland hit a one-out double in the sixth but was stranded at third base. In all, the Pirates went 0-8 with runners in scoring position.
Rutland finished the day 2-4. The Pirates had five hits overall.
Dale will play at Okarche on Tuesday starting at 4:30 p.m.
