  • Asher baseball falls in Roff tourney semis

  • ROFF – The Asher Indians loss to Byng 5-3 in the semifinals of the Roff Tournament on Friday, putting the Indians in Saturday’s third place game.
    The Indians (7-5) took the early lead with a run in the top of the second against the Pirates, but Byng responded with one in the third to tie the game.
    Tim Johnson and Hunter Fowler hit back-to-back solo home runs in the fourth inning to give Asher a 3-1 lead, but Byng scored two in the fourth and two more in the fifth to take the lead for good.
    The Indians won their opening game of the tournament on Thursday over Moss, run-ruling the Pirates 15-5 in five innings.
    Coleten Patten got the win on the mound, improving his record to 2-1 by allowing six hits and three walks while striking out six.
    Patten also had a pair of doubles, but it was George Merchain with the offensive firepower for the Indians. Merchain had two hits, including a double, and drove in six runs.
    Fowler added three hits and drove in a run.
    Asher will play the loser of the Roff/Latta semifinal in the third place game on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
