  • The past five weeks have been busy for a number of Shawnee High School golfers.
Following a successful 2014-15 fundraiser on July 26 at the Shawnee Country Club, no less than six golfers, Garrett McDaniel, Braden Ricks, Jack Barrick, Ryan Epperly, Josh Gentry and Dawson Jones, participated in some or all of the following Oklahoma Junior Golf Association (OJGA) events: the Bailey Ranch Bash in Owasso, the Battle Creek Round Up in Broken Arrow, the Langley Management Kickingbird Fall Challenge in Edmond, and the John Conrad Labor Day Classic in Midwest City.
Plus there are five more OJGA events scheduled prior to the Red River Team Challenge at Dornick Hills, the weekend of October 25-26.
This event pits the best junior golfers in Oklahoma versus the best in Texas. According to the latest Jr. Golf Scoreboard Rankings, Texas is ranked No. 3, while Oklahoma ranks No. 7 out of 36 states who made the list.
Leading the way for the SHS golfers the past month has been senior Braden Ricks. Ricks, after qualifying for the state amateur in July, is ranked 36th in the state (1129th nationally) and finished in the top ten in each of his first three events. His stroke average for the month is 71.8.
Also playing well is senior Garrett McDaniel, the 13th-ranked player in the state (353rd nationally).
