Mummy on the move

Photos
ED BLOCHOWIAK STAFF PHOTOGRAPHER
This Egyptian mummy, part of the permanent collection at the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art in Shawnee, was loaded into a specially made box and transported to Idabel Tuesday where it will be part of a temporary exhibition at the Museum of the Red River. Hieroglyphics on the mummy’s sarcophagus have not yet been translated, but museum officials say evidence suggests the mummy was from the late Ptolemaic period, around 300 B.C., and the body is probably someone who was not of the royal class. See Friday’s WeekEnder for the story and more pictures on the mummy and its departure.
