Oklahoma Baptist University pitcher Spencer Hylander was selected in the final round of the 2009 major league first-time player draft.
A left-handed pitcher from Conroe, Texas, Hylander was 5-1 this season with a 5.02 earned run average. He led the Bison with 16 appearances, including 10 starts. He pitched 61 innings, striking out 56 and holding opponents to a .253 batting average.
Hylander played two seasons at OBU after transferring from Northeast Texas Community College. He was 3-0 his junior season, appearing in 14 games.
Hylander is the first Bison to go in the draft since Felix Peguero in 2005.
Hylander was the 1,511th pick overall of 1,521. The last draft pick made by the Astros, Hylander was the sixth left-handed pick made by Houston.
Two-time All-America first baseman Josh Collazo went un-drafted but is expected to sign a free agent contract.
