Former University of Texas women’s basketball player Gabriell Mattox is transferring to Oklahoma Baptist University for the 2009-10 season.
Mattox, a 5-11 junior forward, transfers to OBU from Texas State University where she started 24 games and led the team in scoring with 12.1 points per game. She also averaged six rebounds and two assists per game.
“Gabriell provides an instant impact for our team,” said Lady Bison coach John McCullough. “She brings talent, experience and leadership.”
Mattox was regarded as the 10th-best high school player in Texas by TexasBasketball.com as she earned first-team All-State honors for four seasons at Kountze High School. She was a two-time region MVP and was on the 2006 Texas State 2A Championship all-tournament team and led KHS to a state finals appearance as a freshman.
She was recruited by Lamar, Villanova, Texas Christian and Boston College before settling on the University of Texas.
At the University of Texas, she played in 22 games as a freshman, averaging two points and 1.6 rebounds while shooting 45.7 percent from the field and 77 percent at the free throw line.
