OBU places 14th in NAIA team standings

SHAWNEE, Okla. —

Oklahoma Baptist University finished 14th in the 2008-09 Learfield Sports Director’s Cup NAIA Standings.
The competition recognizes the best overall athletic programs in the NAIA. The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in up to 12 sports – six women’s and six men’s.
The 2008-09 award was presented at the 44th Annual NACDA Convention in Orlando, Florida.
OBU finished with 541.5 points, despite not scoring until the winter sports season.
 The OBU men’s basketball team placed ninth and the women’s team third in the NAIA. The women’s track team used a second-place outdoor finish and the men’s team was third nationally. The men’s golf team
was ninth.
For the year, OBU had 30 athletes earn 60 All-America Awards. Another 18 were NAIA All-America Scholar Athletes.
Azusa Pacific won the Cup for the fifth year in a row with 915 points.
The Sooner Athletic Conference was well-represented. Oklahoma City placed sixth, OBU 14th, Wayland Baptist was 17th, Oklahoma Christian was 35th and Lubbock Christian was 39th. Southern Nazarene came in at 53rd, followed by St. Gregory’s at 116th and Northwestern Oklahoma State, Rogers State and USAO all tied for 166th.
There were 192 NAIA schools that earned points in the Cup standings.
