Easton Sports, Inc., recently announced that St. Gregory’s University softball players Sharon Bell and Cortney Reynaga were named to its 2009 All-American team.
The pair was among only five NAIA players on the team, which includes players from NCAA Division I and below.
The award caps off a stellar career for Bell, who was named to the second team. The most decorated athlete in SGU history finished her career with 1,918 strikeouts and 147 wins, both NAIA records.
A four-team NAIA All-American, she led the NAIA in strikeouts in each of her four seasons.
Reynaga, a third-team selection, had a breakout sophomore season. The Carlsbad, Calif., native was among the Sooner Athletic Conference leaders with a .440 batting average. Reynaga adds this to a growing list of honors that include all-conference, NAIA All-American and NAIA All-Tournament.
The Cavs finished off the most impressive season in school history in May, falling in the national title game to California Baptist.
SGU, 45-15 on the season, was ranked in the top five nationally for most of 2009.
