Former Seminole State pitcher Clint LittleJim spoke to students on the Seminole State College Campus Wednesday in the Jeff Johnston Auditorium.
In front of the SSC student body, LittleJim shared his personal experience of being faced with a first-degree manslaughter charge after a drunk-driving accident in 1987.
He spoke about how he is using his second chance to teach life lessons to others.
At the age of 19, while attending SSC, LittleJim and a teammate drove to Norman for a high school football game, stopping at a local pub once they arrived. They never made it to the game.
At the end of the night LittleJim grabbed his friends’ keys to warm up the car, got impatient waiting and took off down SH 9 driving home.
The car he was driving crashed into another car killing a 37-year-old wife of 18 years and mother of two teenage boys.
LittleJim was guilt stricken and facing jail time. But the husband of the woman killed in the crash made a “judgment call” that would forever change the fate of the 19-year-old.
He requested to the courts that LittleJim serve no jail time.
After the judge gave him a deferred sentence and probation, LittleJim vowed to use his second chance opportunity to change lives.
LittleJim continued college after his sentencing, pitched for Oral Roberts University, transferred to Tennessee and after an injury ended his baseball career he returned back to Little Axe and worked at the community center.
He went on to coach five years at Life Christian and then was hired by Christian Heritage where he has worked for eight years.
LittleJim delivers proverbs, life lessons and stories to his players and students around the state, teaching others about how life can go wrong and how it can be made right.
