'Salute to Troops' event to be held May 25

Sac & Fox Nation Casinos, will host a “Salute to the Troops” in their new amphitheater in Shawnee Memorial Day weekend.
Glen Coleman, general manager and CEO of the Sac and Fox Nation Casinos, said Heartland Music Review’s “Salute to the Troops” is scheduled for May 25, with shows at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Fifteen local and regional performers will be featured, Coleman said. In addition, before and between shows, a huge banner will be on site for signatures that will be taken to V.A. hospitals and later sent overseas to troops.
Coleman said the event will be an afternoon and evening of patriotic, oldies and country style music.
“We feel that a lot of folks have forgotten the reason for the holiday is to honor our fallen troops,” said Coleman. “It seems everyone thinks it is a reason for a day off or the first day to hit the lakes.”
Coleman and many of his staff are veterans.
Coleman said all ages are welcome to attend the free concert. He said alcohol and coolers will not  be allowed at the event.
