The Museum of Pioneer History in Chandler has announced the 15th fall season of Miss Fay’s Historical Marionette Theater.
Groups of 12 or more — youths or adults — are invited to call for reservations offered free of charge.
This year the featured play is “Wiley Post: Oklahoma’s Trailblazer of the Skies.”
The subject of the play relates to a Smithsonian Institute traveling exhibit, “Journey Stories,” which arrived in Chandler back in February.
The classical marionette theater is performed by veteran puppeteer Joann McMillan using two-foot tall marionettes created by several artists to resemble Oklahoma historical characters.
Marionette Post’s space suit invention is a carefully designed replica of the original exhibited in the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum.
For the free, 1 p.m. afternoon reservations, call McMillan at 918-707-3000.
The following dates are available: Sept. 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 21, 22, 28, 29 and 30.
Morning performances are being provided at no cost to county and area schools, with one date, Sept. 14, now open.
The theater is based on a Chandler artist/schoolteacher’s legacy of teaching manners and morals to her classes with her marionette creations.
Visitors can view her original characters and props, plus other historical puppets at the museum, 717 Manvel Avenue, in Chandler.
For more information about the museum, call 258-2425.
