SHAWNEE, Okla. —

The McLoud Historical Society is in full swing of organizing another great Historical Celebration Sept. 20. This will be a repeat of the Centennial Celebration in 2007. Mainstreet will be bustling with arts and craft vendors and a car show. On the side, the Shawnee Tractor Club will be bringing antique tractors for viewing. The public will be able to pick a favorite tractor during the best tractor contest.
The motorcycle run will start in front of the McLoud Historical Society Museum, 421 W. Broadway. The motorcycle show will be under the awning across the street from the McLoud Café. All registration forms are available on the McLoud Historical Society Web site, www.mcloudhistoricalsociety.org or by calling Judy Sell at 405-642-3072.
Pre-registration is due by Sept. 15, but entries will be accepted the morning of the celebration. Art and crafts vendors should check in at the south end of Main Street.
Booth space and electricity is limited, so vendors need to register or call early. Car exhibitors will check in on the north end of Main Street.
The Historical Society has reserved the American Legion Hut to host a place for people to get out of the sun or eat some of the good food from our vendors.
The Historical Society will be serving desserts and drinks in the hut, as well.
Jim McGaha, society member, will be bringing his bluegrass band to provide some live music during the afternoon.
McLoud elementary and junior-high school art classes will provide pictures for the store windows. Sylvia Metcalf, society member, will be doing face painting and temporary tattoos again this year.
The awards ceremony will be 3:30 p.m. All trophies and prizes will be given to the bike and car show winners at this time.
Winner of the bike run also will be awarded. A 50/50 pot will be circulated during the day and that winner also will be announced at the award ceremony.
The Historical Society Museum will be open for this event. The society invites everyone to visit it to see the work the restored historical society building.
Displays of some of the early history of McLoud also will be up for viewing. Society members will be on hand to explain future expansions of the facility.
All proceeds from this event will be applied to their building fund. More volunteers are needed to have the museum open on a regular basis.
Membership forms will be available to join the society in effort to help preserve the history of McLoud. All donations are welcome and are tax deductible because the McLoud Historical Society is an approved nonprofit organization.
