Participate in a ceramics course
Be artistic and have fun in a Ceramics Class offered by Seminole State College. In just five Saturdays, students will learn about ceramics and earn college credit at the same time.
Participants will learn about materials used for ceramics, study techniques to use with clay, learn how to trim and glaze, practice decorating techniques and learn how to throw pots on the electric wheel.
The class will meet this Saturday, as well as on Oct. 3, 10, 24, 31 — all Saturdays — from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Room 104 of the Colclazier Technology Building.
The cost for the course is $109 and includes a basic tool kit. SSC instructor John Bartos will be teaching the course.
To enroll, drop by the SSC Office of Admissions in Tanner Hall.
The Admission Office is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday.

Take a Quickbooks class

Area residents and students interested in Quickbooks will have the opportunity to take a five-week Saturday course through Seminole State College’s Business and Industry Training Program beginning Saturday.
Quickbooks will be offered on Saturdays and will meet Sept. 26, Oct. 3, 10, 24, 31, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The course will meet in Room 108 of the Colclazier Building. 
This course will teach students to record accurate data on the computer and to interpret and work with financial information in the form of computer output.
The applications and projects will cover the basic areas of financial accounting and provide experience in the areas of general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll.
The course costs $284.85, for tuition and fees. Additional course material may be purchased through the SSC Bookstore.
Students must have taken ACCT 1413 or concurrent enrollment in ACCT 2033 before enrolling in this course.
Those wanting to enroll are encouraged to call Carol Hartman, Business and Training Coordinator at 382-9246.
Participants can also enroll at the College’s Office of Admissions in the Tanner Hall Administration Building from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday through Friday.

Learn basic computer skills
Seminole State College’s Business and Industry Training Program is offering a special six-day basic computer skills class starting Monday, Oct. 19.
The class, “Basic Computer Skills,” will meet Mondays and Thursdays, Oct. 19, 22, 26, 29 and Nov. 2, 5 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. in Room 117 of the Enoch Kelly Haney Center on the SSC campus.
The course cost $99, which includes the cost for materials.
The course will be taught by Karen Smith. Smith has a bachelor’s degree in computer science and accounting from the University of Central Oklahoma.
She has 25 years experience as a professional computer scientist and has worked with various businesses throughout the state of Oklahoma.     
The key features of the course will be working with Windows programs and looking into computer hardware and software. Basic Internet, along with the use of e-mail and learning organizational skills and file management, will be covered.
“This is a basic computer course designed to provide training for first-time computer users,” said SSC Business and Industry Training Coordinator Carol Hartman said.
“This course will also be useful for participants who need basic computer information as well.”
Those wanting to enroll in the Basic Computer Skills course are encouraged to call the college’s admissions office at 382-9950.
