Bone health event open to public

SEMINOLE, Okla. —

A free public service workshop focused on the critical health issue of building and keeping healthy bones among children and adults will be held at Seminole State College on Thursday.
This special bone health event, which also will discuss early detection and prevention of osteoporosis, runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Enoch Kelly Haney Center on the SSC campus.
Registration is free and will be accepted at the door.


SSC students, faculty learn about services

Seminole State College students and faculty had a chance to learn about goods and services available in the community during the college’s 15th annual Area Services Fair held on Wednesday and Thursday. About 20 businesses participated in the event.

Friends and supporters of the Jasmine Moran Children’s Museum will gather in Tulsa Oct. 1 to honor former coach of the University of Oklahoma Sooners and Dallas Cowboys, Barry Switzer. Switzer will be the recipient of the Museum’s “Jasmine Award” presented once every two years to a person, or persons, who have given extraordinary service to the children of Oklahoma.

What does one do when his or her client has a can-do attitude? Get out of the way and watch him succeed.
That’s exactly what Teresa McDermott, Oklahoma Department of Rehabilitation Services Visual Services counselor did when she took on Kenneth Poore’s case. Poore, a Konawa resident, wanted to work and take care of himself, but he was new to town and couldn’t find work.

Dr. Jim Utterback, president of Seminole State College, has been selected as vice chair of the Oklahoma Educational Television Authority Board.
The mission of OETA is to make educational and public television services available to all Oklahoma citizens on a coordinated statewide basis, through various educational and cultural agencies under the direction and supervision of the Authority Board.

SSC offers ‘Family-to-Family’ course

Seminole State College will host a free, 12-week “Family-to-Family” course 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Mondays, beginning Sept. 14.
The course is designed specifically for families of persons diagnosed with serious mental illness.

Former Seminole State pitcher Clint LittleJim spoke to students on the Seminole State College Campus Wednesday in the Jeff Johnston Auditorium.
In front of the SSC student body, LittleJim shared his personal experience of being faced with a first-degree manslaughter charge after a drunk-driving accident in 1987.

In attendance were laboratory managers and education coordinators from SSC hospital affiliates where MLT students spend 16 weeks in clinical internships.

Britt Limousin Ranch, Seminole, owns the reserve grand champion fullblood Limousin bull named at the All-American Limousin Futurity. The event was held July 17 in Amarillo, Texas, in conjunction with the National Junior Limousin Show and Congress.

I enjoyed the article about the climbing hydrangeas taking time in the Wed. July 29, by Jim Fitzgerald.
I think it’d be fun to see a picture of those.
I’ve seen hydrangeas, my parents had them, but I’ve not ever seen climbing hydrangeas.
But I enjoyed the article and if you would just consider photos or something that would be really nice.

Konawa police arrested nine people Sunday after a tip from “concerned citizens” led authorities to a group of suspects police believe started two house fires, torched a dumpster and broke into a convenience store during a weekend crime spree that caused thousands of dollars in damage to the Seminole County town.
