Shawnee student graduates summa cum laude

SHAWNEE, Okla. —

Emily Dyer of Shawnee graduated with honors from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., May 8.
She graduated summa cum laude, with Latin honors, with a degree in mechanical engineering. She also earned a minor in engineering management.
During her academic career at Vanderbilt, Dyer was active in Alpha Delta Pi sorority, Campus Crusade for Christ, Society for Women Engineers and Pi Tau Sigma Mechanical Engineering Society. She was on the Engineering Dean’s List all eight semesters while in school and was inducted into the Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma Honor societies. Since her sophomore year, she served as a teaching assistant in the calculus department and also worked as a math tutor.
Dyer served summer internships with various companies in the engineering field, including General Electric, York International and NASA. She is now employed by Boeing in the Oklahoma City area and will be on TEAM KC 135. Dyer is on an eight-week mission trip to Sweden with Campus Crusade for Christ.
A 2005 graduated of the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics in Oklahoma City, Dyer grew up in Shawnee, attending local schools until the 10th grade.
She is the daughter of Terri and Jerry Pickering of Shawnee and Dennis Dyer of Tecumseh. Her grandparents are Dr. Dan and June Hodges of Shawnee and Harold and Almeda Dyer of Tecumseh.
