Shawnee Little Theatre, Inc. and the Oklahoma Baptist University Fine Arts Department will team for the ninth time to produce the Stephen Sondheim/James Lapine musical “Into The Woods” Feb. 12-20, 2010.
Auditions for the show are scheduled Sunday, Nov. 15 at 5 p.m. and Monday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. Both days’ auditions will be at OBU’s Raley Chapel, room 142. There are roles for actors of all ethnicities ages 16 to 75 or older.
Directing will be Gregory Hopkins, with musical direction by Mark and Jennifer McQuade. Those auditioning will be required to sing a selection from the show, or provide their own music and song. They will also be required to read scenes from the show.
The SLT/OBU production will be performed Feb. 12, 13, 14 and 17 through 20, 2010 at Shawnee Little Theatre, 1829 Airport Road. Proceeds from the show will be earmarked to fund lighting and sound improvements for the community theatre.
Based on classic fairy tales, “Into The Woods” boasts an array of cockeyed story book characters in James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim’s fractured fairy tale version. With all characters “living happily ever after” by the end of Act One, the consequences of their actions return to haunt them in Act Two. What begins as an irreverent fantasy, becomes a moving lesson about community responsibility and the stories we tell our children.
