St. Gregory’s University Theatre will kick off the spring portion of its season with the off-Broadway musical, “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change!”
Opening night begins at 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, in the Sarkeys Performing Arts Theatre on the Shawnee campus. The show will run through March 7 with 8 p.m. performances on March 4, 5 and 6 and 3 p.m. for Sunday’s finale.
“This year’s musical is really different from anything we have done since I have been here, and it will be great to draw an older crowd to the production,” said SGU student Jannett Rizcallah, who plays the characters of Pat and Susan. “Everybody has been having so much fun during rehearsal, and it would be great to see the Shawnee community come out and have fun with us during the show.”
“I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change!” opened in New York at the Westside Theatre in August 1996, and closed in July 2008, which makes it the second-longest-running off-Broadway show with more than 5,000 performances. During its run, the show grossed more than $200 million.
The show is presented in the form of a series of vignettes, connected by the central themes of love and relationships. The play’s tagline is, “Everything you have ever secretly thought about dating, romance, marriage, lovers, husbands, wives and in-laws, but were afraid to admit.”
Tickets go on sale one hour prior to each performance at the theatre box office, which is located in the theatre lobby. Ticket prices are $10 for adults, $6 for students with valid identification, and $4 for children under 10 years of age. SGU students, faculty and staff will receive a complimentary ticket with a valid ID.
The Sarkeys Performing Arts Center is located at 1900 W. MacArthur on the campus of St. Gregory’s University in Shawnee. For more information, call 405-878-5436 or go to www.stgregorys.edu and click on the “Fine Arts” tab.
