Hilltop Freewill Baptist Church will host Kevin Spencer & Friends in concert 7 p.m., Feb. 26 in Wewoka.
The church is located three miles west of Wewoka on SH 59 or seven miles east of Bowlegs on SH 59.
Kevin Spencer & Friends is a southern gospel group that organized in June 1992. The group consists of Kevin
Spencer, James Dean and Starla Dean and is based in Ashland, Ohio.
Spencer said his greatest moments are when something he has written or sung has truly touched someone’s life.
He also owns and operates the Some Dawning Music Company Int’l., Inc., which is a company that includes recording, songwriting, publishing, promoting and producing of southern gospel music.
James Dean joined the group in 1997 and assists managing the offices at the Some Dawning Music Company. His love for gospel music continues to grow as more lives are touched day by day.
Starla Dean joined the group in 2006 as a tenor. Starla considers encouraging people with a song as the joy of singing, and she also works in the Some Dawning Music Company office.
James and Starla Dean are married and said they “feel very blessed to tour and minister as husband and wife.”
Spencer has released a new tribute CD to his favorite singer, the late Rusty Goodman. Each concert includes a special tribute to Goodman including songs from the project, “Remembering Rusty,” such as “Who am I,” “Leavin’ on my mind,” “Look for me” and “I wouldn’t take nothing for my journey now.”
Kevin Spencer & Friends have recorded several No. 1 and No. 2 songs.
Their hit songs and fan favorites include: “The blood is still there,” If the Rapture was yesterday,” “Walk on the water,” and “Let’s meet by the river.”
They have been awarded the Singing News “Horizon Group of the Year” and the Gospel Voice “Sunrise Group of the Year” — the two highest honors for a new group to receive.
They currently sing approximately 260 concerts per year covering most of the United States, Canada, the Virgin Islands, Honduras and Grand Cayman Islands, and can be seen on many different Christian TV stations including Gospel Music Television and Gaither Gospel Series.
Kevin Spencer & Friends are all born-again Christians and believe in living what they sing.
