OU dance students earn scholarships, awards

SHAWNEE, Okla. —

The University of Oklahoma’s School of Dance hosted the 2008 awards banquet in honor of the graduating students on April 29 at the Oklahoma Memorial Union University Club. Students from both ballet and modern departments were acknowledged for their outstanding achievements in dance as well as academics.

Kelsey Schwenker received the Frieda Bambas Scholarship Award. T

he Jeanne and John Potts Scholarship was awarded to Tye Love.

Aaron Charnay was the recipient of the Jeanne Steele Potts Scholarship Award.

Anna Doss received the Juli Busken Memorial Scholarship Award.

The Helen Gregory Modern Dance Award went to Chandler Pace.

Awards for the highest grade point averages went to undergraduate Sherry Tay and to graduate fellow Melissa Gammel, who is pursuing an MFA in dance.

Cameron Lee was the recipient of the Miguel Terekhov Choreography Award.

The Ovation Award for Ballet went to Mallory Markham, while the Ovation Award for Modern Dance went to Aleyse Bradford.

Jennifer Franks received the Scott Salmon Choreography Award.

The Yvonne Chouteau Ballet Award was given to Carmen Felder.

The School of Dance Outstanding Senior Award went to Aleyse Bradford.

Chandler Pace received the Yoshi and Koko Sasaki Scholarship.

The Angel Morris Okerson Scholarship went to Renee Pichette.

Christine Howard received the Euval R. Charles Scholarship, while Aaron Charnay was given the Beverly Wellnitz Scholarship.

Jacquelyne Boe received the Mary K. Harrison Scholarship.

Tye Love, Katie Arnold and Kelsey Schwenker all were the recipients of the John and Mary Nichols Scholarship.

The Dr. Mark Allen Everett Scholarship went to Xavier Garcia, Eric Glenn and Collin Eckhoff.

Aleyse Bradford, Yoon Jung Choi, Jennifer Franks, Youn Kyung Lee, Sarah Worden and Megan Zellefrow were the recipients of Buffalo Mask Awards. Larry Hammet, Coopie Mason, Cynthia Perry and David Spirakes all received an Honorary Buffalo Mask Award.
