Seminole State College will offer a scuba diving certification course beginning Aug. 20.
The course will be held 6:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Wednesdays from Aug. 20 through Dec. 10 at Harbor Field House on the SSC campus.
Coursework will take place in Room 102 of the field house, as well as in the swimming pool.
The cost of the course is $312.90 per participant and includes all equipment needed.

The office is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday; from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday.
The course is a PADI open water diving course and will be instructed by Lea Ann Hughes. Hughes has achieved Gold Level PADI Course Director status, and is one of less than 100 Gold Level directors worldwide.
PADI is recognized and respected rating for divers. In the course, Hughes will take participants through the basics of learning how to scuba dive. Work will begin in the swimming pool and progress to open water.
Throughout the course, participants will engage in six confined water dives, four open water dives and will go through eight sessions of knowledge development. Prerequisites for the course are good health, reasonable fitness and comfort in water.
A PADI Open Water Crew-Pak is required and is available for purchase in the SSC Bookstore.
The equipment each participant will use includes a mask, fins, a snorkel, neoprene boots, a tank, a regulator, a buoyancy compensator, weights, a wet suit and a submersible pressure gauge.
