The Oak Ridge Boys, one of the best-selling country bands of all time, will perform at FireLake Grand Casino in Shawnee at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 19.
“The Oak Ridge Boys are synonymous with country music,” said Brad Peltier, director of marketing for FireLake Grand Casino. “They are true legends in the industry. We are excited to have them perform at FireLake Grand Casino.”
From the early gospel roots to more than 30 band member changes, The Oak Ridge Boys have a storied history. The group began in the early ’40s singing gospel music in Oak Ridge, Tenn. In 1973, the Oak Ridge Boys received their big break performing with Roy Clark. The group signed with Columbia Records and recorded several gospel albums for the label.
In 1977, the group moved into the country music genre and received its first No. 1 hit, “Ya’ll Come Back Saloon.” From there, the hits and awards began to roll in for the Oak Ridge Boys. In the years that followed, the band recorded such favorites as “Elvira,” “Bobbie Sue” and “Fancy Free.” They also scored 10 gold and three platinum records and more than a dozen No. 1 singles.
