“Deadland,” a sci-fi action movie set in a post-apocalyptic world complete with a worldwide plague and nuclear fallout, will be the opening-night film at the third annual Southern Winds Film Festival, which will again be hosted in Shawnee.
The film will play at 9 p.m. Thursday at the "Opening Night Party" in downtown Shawnee, and again on Saturday at 8:15 p.m.
Two local men, Adam Hampton and Kenny Pitts, have small roles in the film, which stars screenwriter Gary Weeks and working actor Brain Tee, who played one of the bad guys in “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.”
The film festival will run tonight, Friday and Saturday at various locations around Shawnee.
