As in Bixby Spartans.
Eight area squads entered the football playoffs last Friday night but only three emerged victorious.
In addition to Shawnee, two other area squads, Chandler and Stroud — both of whom are district champions — kept their seasons alive with victories.

“They’re good. They’re really good,” George said. “They’re one of the top teams in the state. And they’re good at all the right spots.”
CHANDLER 47, SPIRO 6
CHANDLER — It didn’t take long for the Chandler Lions to show the Spiro Bulldogs exactly who was in charge of Friday night’s opening round of the Class 2A playoffs. In fact, it took just 19 seconds for the Lions to get their first score in a 47-6 pasting of the visitors.
The Lions took the opening kickoff and needed just one play from scrimmage to get on the board, and did so in spectacular fashion. Quarterback Brandon Cummings took the snap and threw a hook pattern to Joe Hernandez. The receiver then pitched the ball to a sprinting J.J. Tillis, who ran untouched for the 66-yard scoring strike with 11:41 left in the first quarter.
Chandler’s defense then held the Bulldogs on their initial drive. The offense responded with a 9-play, 65-yard drive and created a comfortable 14-point cushion with 5:57 left in the first quarter. The scoring play came on another scoring pass from Cummings, this time to Tyler Milam from the 10-yard line.

The Tigers, who concluded their season at 10-1, have now bowed out to a C-3 team in the opening round of the playoffs for three straight seasons.
