It took a while for the fourth-ranked Bison to get cranking, but Oklahoma Baptist University won the men’s basketball season opener Friday night, 89-65, against Dallas Christian College.
“You have to start somewhere and this is where we are right now,” said OBU coach Doug Tolin. “We’ve got a long way to go and a lot of things to work on. But we did some good things, too. We need to pick it up in practice.”
OBU was an impressive 67 percent from the field but shot just over 50 percent from the free throw line. The Bison committed 25 turnovers – 14 of those unforced.
After trailing the Crusaders for most of the first seven minutes, the Bison used a 15-0 run to take a 21-13 lead with 8:54 left in the first half. Six different Bison scored in the spree, led by Tyler Parker with four points.
From there, the Crusaders only scored back-to-back baskets once as the Bison built a 44-29 halftime cushion.
HENRYETTA — In a contest riddled with turnovers, Prague’s Red Devils notched third place in District 2A-5 with a 47-24 triumph over Henryetta Friday night.
Now playoff bound, the Red Devils will face an undetermined foe in next week’s postseason first round.

DIBBLE — Almost 40 years ago to the date, Stroud’s 1969 football team went 10-0 en route to capturing a state championship.
Friday night, the 2009 Stroud squad culminated a 10-0 regular season with a 47-0 trampling of Dibble.
Stroud also captured the District A-5 crown with an 8-0 record.

The Hornets lost, 49-0, to finish their 2009 season at 0-10.

The Wolves, behind two pass interception touchdowns in the first three minutes, mauled Capitol Hill, 42-10, in a District 5A-2 game Thursday night at C.B. Speegle Stadium.
On the third play of the game, Brayle Brown returned an interception 40 yards for a TD. On Capitol Hill’s next snap, Saulyer Saxon stole a pass and sprinted 42 yards for a touchdown.

The Wolves accumulated 286 yards of offense while the hosts were limited to 69. Capitol Hill finished the year at 0-10 overall and 0-7 in district play.
