A Lincoln County rivalry matchup leaned in the favor of Class 3A, third-ranked Chandler Monday as the Lions bested Stroud, 7-3.
Chandler led throughout, building on a 1-0 first-inning edge, and outhitthe Class 2A Tigers 6-4. Neither team committed an error.
The winning pitcher was starter Jack Gray, who struck out six batters and walked two in four innings. His brother, Jon Gray, provided relief in the fifth and sixth innings and recorded two strikeouts and two walks.
Johnathon Frazier closed, offering no walks and whiffing a batter in the seventh inning. At the plate, Frazier posted a 2-for-3 outing that yielded a double in the third and a two-RBI double in the fourth.
Chandler’s J.K. Waldman han RBI groundout in the first inning and an RBI double in the third.
Stroud’s only multiple hitter was catcher Daniel Black, who went 2-for-4 with a first-inning single and a third-inning two-run double. Tiger Greg Werschky had an RBI two-bagger in the bottom of the seventh.
Stroud’s Shane Pennock absorbed the loss, throwing a seven-inning six-hitter while producing a pair of strikeouts and six walks.
Chandler will face Beggs at noon Thursday in the Okmulgee Sonic Classic. Beggs in ranked 20th in Class 3A.
