STILLWATER – Shawnee’s cross country girls finished seventh in their division Saturday at the Cowboy Jamboree.
Freshman Jessica Cousins had Shawnee’s best finish (21st) with a time of 12:30 on the 3,200-meter course. Other SHS runners compiling points were Allison Burger (12:46); Miranda Dent (13:15), Javen Bucy (13:31), Sarita Jenkins (13:37), Kristan McCray (14:33) and Stephanie Enoch (14:56).
“The girls continue to improve as our varsity team average was 14 seconds better than last week at OBU,” Shawnee head coach Mark Heard said. “This was a tough meet with 22 teams from Oklahoma and Texas.”
Senior Jonathan Reames had the best finish for the SHS boys — 23rd at 17:15. Other SHS entrants were Russell Saunders (19:09), Yahola Jones (19:34), Cody Sivils (21:05) and Jacob Treat (21:26).
“Jon Reames ran extremely well with a 14-second improvement over last week,” Heard said.
In the JV competition, sophomore Erinn Shaughnessy had the best SHS finish, 24th, with a 14:24. Bethany Hall was at 15:20, Emalee Staude at 15:21 and Natalie Gates at 15:40.
Canyon, Texas won the girls team title while McGuinness was the runner-up.
Shawnee will compete in a pre-state meet Friday at Mitch Park in Edmond. The Class 5A varsity girls will compete at noon with the JV girls going at 12:15. The varsity boys will be in action at 12:30 with the JV boys going at 12:50.
Shawnee will serve as the host for the Suburban Conference meet Tuesday, Oct. 14 at Bill Ford’s ranch.
