LATTA —
Dale’s Trace Dilliner struck out 17 batters in the Pirates’ 8-4 victory over Rock Creek Saturday in the finals at the Latta Tournament.
Dilliner allowed only three hits and three walks, raising his record to 3-0.
The Pirates, now 12-2, scored twice in the fourth, once in the fifth and twice in the sixth.
Rock Creek pulled the score up to 5-4 in the sixth inning when their pitcher hit a grand slam home run. The Pirates finished them off in the seventh inning, scoring three times.
“We hit at the right times and they made a few errors at the right time,” said Dale coach Jerry Sanford.
Dalton Streber was Dale’s leading hitter, going 3-for-3 with two doubles.
The Pirates will play their next game at Tupelo on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
