SHAWNEE, Okla. —

Siblings Dallie Bay, Dawson and Dually Taylor have one thing that other International Finals Youth Rodeo contestants do not. Each other.
With a sibling support system, these three may be unbeatable this year.
“It’s so much easier to do this when your whole family is behind you,” Dallie Bay,  18, said. “We couldn’t do it by ourselves.”
But support is not the only thing these Checotah youth lend one another.
The girls are competing in pole bending and barrel racing, which means they will be competing against one another.
“We don’t get too competitive with each other,” Dawson, 15, said. “Usually one of us takes first place and the other takes second. It really just depends on who practiced the most that week.”
The sisters may not feel competition from each other, but Dawson said she came to win.
“I like competition. I like to win,” Dawson said. “My horse got hurt before we left but I brought another one, I’m not giving up.”
The IFYR events may not create competition between the sisters, but practice does.
The girls ride together during the week and said they frequently correct the other’s mistakes.
“That’s when the fighting starts,” Dually, 16, said. “No, not all the time, but sometimes it happens.”
Dually may have to practice with his sisters during the week but on the weekends they are often at different events.
The girls are always doing barrels, Dually said, but he usually goes to open rodeos on the weekends.
But when they are not together on the weekends, big sister keeps them in touch.
“She is always calling my phone every minute,” Dually said.
“Yea, she is kind of like our mother goose,” Dawson said.
So what happens to the trio when Dallie Bay moves out to get married and go to college?
We will still be close and the girls will always haul together, Dallie Bay Taylor said.
Dallie Bay will attend Connor’s State College in Warner to get her nursing RN degree and follow in her mother’s footsteps.
“I will definitely continue to rodeo,” Dallie Bay said.
And as for the new addition to the family, Dallie Bay’s fiancée, Colton Lovett, will not be a huge adjustment, Dually said.
Lovett and Dually are partners in the team roping event at IFYR this week.
“We were friends before they started dating,” Dually said.
“That’s kind of how it works though. We all date each other’s friends. It can get complicated sometimes.”
Between practices and events this group will not have much time to sit and watch this week but Dawson said she would try and make the time for such an exciting event.
“It’s the most exciting, edge of your seat event that you’ll ever see,” Dawson said. “There are so many different events to watch you’ll never get bored.”
